Academy of Silesia has been active in publishing since 2003. The UTK Press is a dynamically developing academic publisher and is an important element of the professional organizational structure of the School, which functions on behalf of making science available to everyone.
The University of Technology in Katowice Press is on the register of publishers which publish reviewed scientific monographs – register of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education: item 765, Publisher identification number: 87700 level I: 80 points - register of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education.
Academy of Silesia carries out publishing activities by publishing mostly scientific monographs and textbooks in order to promote modern knowledge, scientific research, and development works of its staff.
The UTK Press specializes in publishing books mainly dealing with the academic disciplines represented by the school profile. These include engineering and technical sciences, the arts, and art conservation. The publications deal mainly with the use of digital technologies in various aspects of public activity, within the structure of the functioning of organizations as well as the transformation of the economy and society. One of the most important characteristics of a monograph of the Press is the interdisciplinary character of the studies perceived within the context of the challenges of the modern world in the time of dynamic development of modern technologies or the current situation of pandemic risk. The interdisciplinary character manifests itself in a multicultural approach to the research assumptions and the methodology applied, which integrates technical sciences with physical and social sciences, as well as humanities. The publications combine studies on contemporary technological tools and technological innovations in the processes of the improvement of science and education, while also presenting the spectacular academic achievements in a given discipline, using modern materials and laboratory tests, as well as non-standard practical solutions implemented within the framework of collaboration with local governments and investors.
The UTK Press also publishes Scientific Journals as a serial publication. The Scientific Journals are edited directly by the Rector of the Academy of Silesia. The editorial team maintains a website of the journals on which it lists detailed information connected with ethical, review, and publishing procedures.
The University of Technology in Katowice Press follows the recommendations of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education as far as good publishing practices. The Publishing Committee, which fulfills the role of the scientific council of the Press cares for the high substantive level of the publications of the AS, appropriate review and publishing procedures, as well as following the principles of publishing ethics.
The mission of the University of Technology in Katowice Press is to allow all interested parties access to scientific monographs and textbooks. The titles published by the School, are published in a non-commercial way and are accessible to everyone (Open access) in selected databases after the publishing procedures are finalized, both in a printed as well as an electronic version. The Academy publications which are destined to be sold are available in open access in selected databases.
All publications are checked with an anti-plagiarism program.
